National S-License and its requirements
In the past, we have held discussions with various member companies regarding the Swiss national S-license, issued by the Federal Office of Civil Aviation FOCA. During these discussions, the requirements for such a license as a specialist were interpreted in different ways, particularly with regard to providing evidence of the necessary practical experience.
In addition to the theoretical requirements, which vary depending on the specialist field, the following requirements apply to practical experience:
- Proof that the individual has been working in their specialist field in the maintenance of aircraft or components for 2 years
- of which at least 1 year must have been in the field of activity for which the license is being applied for
- and the most recent practical work must not have taken place more than 12 months ago.
This minimum practical experience is not linked to a specific company; this means the experience does not necessarily have to be gained at the company through which the person wishes to register for the S-license examination.
Complete requirements and the various types of S-licenses can be found in the linked documents: "Luftfahrtgesetzgebung" VLIp 748.127.2, Article 26 ff and "Technische Mitteilung" 90.001-10.
